CABLE, Wis. — At the public hearing held last night, January 11, by the Bayfield County Forestry Committee (BCFC) at the Cable Community Center, the BCFC passed a motion to postpone a decision on the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation’s proposal for a new trailhead at the Highway 63 – Leonard School Road location (east of hwy 63).

A decision by the Bayfield County Forestry Committee is required because constructing the proposed Birkie trailhead would involve a connector trail to the main Birkebeiner Trail that would cross three-quarter miles of Bayfield County forest.

The five representatives of the BCFC concluded that enough new information was presented at last night’s meeting that it would like to postpone its decision in order to further review this information and provide an additional opportunity for public discussion. A decision will be made after further discussion at the BCFC’s monthly meeting in March, to be held in Washburn.
