The Auburn Ski Club in Truckee, Calif., is currently working towards being officially named to host the 2013 SuperTour Finals and Distance Nationals. U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Nordic Manager Joey Caterinichio said in an email on Tuesday that Truckee is the “tentative site” to host and should be closer to confirmation within the week.

The event is scheduled for March 28/29 through April 5.

“Due to the timeframe of this event, finding a place with snow suitable to run a championship race is the key,” Caterinichio said.

As in much of the U.S., 2012 was a difficult winter for Northern California, though a series of storms in March gave the area a late-season boost. In a monthly snowpack measurement conducted by California Cooperative Snow Surveys in April, the Lake Tahoe station snow had 31 inches of depth and 11 inches of water content; 39 percent of the long-term average for the station.
