ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The youngest of two Bjornsen siblings on the U.S. Ski Team, 22-year-old Erik Bjornsen recently sat down with Reese Hanneman, FS media contributor and Bjornsen’s teammate on the Alaska Pacific University (APU) Elite Team, at the APU Nordic Ski Center for a frank discussion about last season and the one just ahead.

“How should I sit?” Bjornsen says with a smile at the start of the interview. Then he lies down.

But in all seriousness, Hanneman raises some questions that elicit elaborate responses from the Washington native, now in his third year with APU.

“I’ve never been that nervous for a race before,” Bjornsen says of one particular competition at U.S. SuperTour Finals, one of the highlights of his 2012/2013 season.

And then there was a helicopter tour of Alaska: “… It just made me realize how crazy this place is that I live in.”

Finally, his hopes and dreams, and the people he has to thank for the ability to pursue them: “You guys have all stepped it up I hope we can make you proud this year.”
