Quick Recap: We’ll have a full race report up tomorrow, including athlete comments and photos, but here is a quick recap of the action in the men’s 10k and women’s 5k interval start skate, which took place this morning in Ketchum, Idaho.
After just over a week off from racing, the Period II western swing of SuperTour racing continued this morning in Ketchum, ID. The SuperTour races were part of the 2022 Sun Valley Nordic Invitational, which also included RMISA collegiate races, and youth races. Today’s stage featured an individual start skate, with the senior women a one-lap 5-kilometer course on the Lake Creek trails, and the senior men repeating the route for a total of 10k.
On the heels of a dominant performance in the 20k mass start free during the U.S. Cross Country Championships in Soldier Hollow, UT, Rosie Brennan smashed the women’s race to win in a similar fashion. Brennan (USST/APU) completed the loop in 14:28.6, nearly 50-seconds faster than the next woman. Recovered from racing the Tour de Ski, Sophia Laukli (USST/U of Utah) took second place (+48.6), with Novie McCabe four seconds behind in third (+52.6).
For the men, hometown favorite Johnny Hagenbuch (USST/SVSEF) clocked the fastest time of 26:15.4. Though tighter than the women’s race, Hagenbuch also gapped the men’s field, finishing 13.3 seconds ahead of Hunter Wonder (USST/APU) in second place. University of Denver senior Bernhard Flaschberger was third to the line, 27.1 seconds behind Hagenbuch.
