The Latest World Skiathlon Title
Ebba Andersson recently put in an incredible performance to come home with the World Skiathlon title. Closely followed by another talented skier, Therese Johaug, Andersson powered across the finish line two seconds ahead of Johaug. It really was a nail-biting championship to watch. The race was pretty much over with 4km left to go. Jonna Sundling, another Swedish cross-country skier, fell on a turn, leaving Johaug and Andersson to power ahead.
The Skiathlon event, a 10km classic and a 10km freestyle portion, is one of the most respected titles to win—Ebba Andersson has two of them. A lot of the competitors were from her home country.
The different skiing disciplines have grown across the world in recent years. Each country has its own notable name attached to one discipline. For instance, now that alpine skiing is one of the top sports in New Zealand, Alice Robinson’s name is a household one. The USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin is one of Alice Robinson’s key competitors in alpine skiing, while Germany’s Andreas Wellinger leads the way in his home nation as a ski jumper. Ebba Andersson sets the national standard in Sweden.
