OBERWIESENTHAL, Germany (Aug. 20) – The women’s ski jumping crew were flying through the sky on Friday, competing in the Oberwiesenthal Continental Cup. USA’s Sarah Hendrickson (Park City, UT) stomped on the podium in third. Austria’s Jacqueline Seifriedsberger won the event.

The women competed on the normal hill Friday with Seifriedsberger landing two consistent jumps of 96.5 meters for a total of 232.5 meters. Second place Coline Mattel of France scored the longest jump of the day with her second jump, 98 meters. The jump would not be enough to claim the win, keeping Matel in second 1.5 meters behind Seifriedsberger.

U.S. ski jumper Hendrickson, only 16 years old, put down two solid jumps to earn a spot on the podium in third. Hendrickson’s second jump of 94.5 meters, edged her over Japan’s Sara Takanashi in fourth. Hendrickson’s total distance was 218 meters.

The women jumpers will be in the start again on Saturday, for the second normal hill competition of the Continental Cup series in Oberwiesenthal, Germany.
