The U.S. Cross Country Ski Team has announced its nominations for the 2016-17 season, and the list includes eight A-team members, three B-teamers, and five development-team skiers, including newbies Ian Torchia and Hannah Halvorsen.

Germany’s Herrmann Makes the Switch to Biathlon

Germany's 27-year-old sprint specialist Denise Herrmann made a big announcement on Wednesday: she's going to be a biathlete. "The switch to a new discipline will be a big challenge, I am aware of that, but I am confident that I can do it with diligence, courage, and determination!" Herrmann wrote.
Getting used to seeing the same ol' Norwegians year after year? Next season will look different, at least on the coaching staff, as the Ski Federation's men's and women's cross-country coaches are both moving on after five and 10 years of service, respectively.
Kalla Leaves Swedish National Team to Train Alone; Richardsson and Olsson Are Back

Charlotte Kalla is trying the Petter Northug model and will train outside of her country's national team this season, instead collaborating with her coach Magnus Ingesson at Piteå Elit. Meanwhile, after a year of focusing on Ski Classics, Johan Olsson and Daniel Richardsson are back to the national team.
It's been 15 years since the U.S. hosted a cross-country World Cup. In that time, Canada has hosted such international races on home snow multiple times, most recently with the eight-stage Ski Tour Canada. After notching national titles on the same day and leading Period 1 of the SuperTour, the Patterson siblings continued their season dominance, taking both the men's and women's 2016 Continental Skiers of the Year award. Honorable mention goes to the men's SuperTour winner Eric Packer and Chelsea Holmes, one of the circuit's most consistent female skiers.

It was a tight race for Canada's Continental Skier of the Year, with Andy Shields edging out Kevin Sandau by a single point in the overall NorAm standings. Dahria Beatty took her second win of the 2016 FS awards after topping both the NorAm overall and sprint standings.
