It's a frigid Monday morning and the American SuperTour has left the building. The USSA PR department must have forgotten to send Zeus a Christmas card last December, because this tour has seen plenty of uncomfortably cold mountain air in the last twelve months. West Yellowstone was the coldest spot in the country at -30F five nights ago. Yesterday racers warmed up with breathing masks and the races were almost moved from Bohart Ranch back to Lindley in hopes of finding a venue that was above the FIS legal floor of -4F.
James Southam (APU) won yesterday's 15K classic race at Bohart Ranch in Bozeman. Brothers Bryan and Chris Cook, filled the rest of the podium, Bryan in second and Chris in third. It was a cold day out at Bohart. Race organizers were watching the low temps and rumors were circulating late last night about the race being moved within the town of Bozeman to Lindley Park, the venue for yesterday's sprint. Luckily ambient temps stayed manageable, or the day would have been closer to home but also turned today into a gerbil-style front yard distance event.
Ater two podiums the US scored another Top-10 result today at the relay competition in Östersund, Sweden today. Lowell Bailey, Jay Hakkinen, Tim Burke and Jeremy Teela posted a strong finish in an exciting relay competition on the last day of competition in Östersund. The result marks Freeman’s best World Cup performance ever – though he does have two 4th’s in the World Championships as well. Garrot Kuzzy (USST/CXC Team Vertical Limit) has had a terrific first week of racing. He won Wednesday's classic sprint, took second in yesterday's 15K skate, and won today's 10K classic race in a close finish with Chris Cook (Steinbock Racing). Cook took second only 2 seconds behind Kuzzy and looked very strong on the course, while Canadian National Team members Sean Crooks and Stefan Kuhn finished third and fourth, together 30 seconds behind the winner.

Madeleine Williams of the Canadian National Team won today's SuperTour 5K classic race in West Yellowstone. Holly Brooks (APU) was today's fastest American in second place just under six seconds back, followed by Shayla Swanson and Dasha Gaiazova (Canadian National Team), and second American Rosie Brennan (Dartmouth).
