Birkie Lands Title Sponsor in Swix Sport USA

Swix Sport USA and the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation came out with some big news for their respective organizations on Tuesday, announcing that Swix signed on as title sponsor for the Birkie's ski events for two years. Swix Sport USA President and CEO Steve Poulin talks about the significance of the partnership and how it will contribute to Birkie Fever.

The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF) has appointed Ben Popp as its new Executive Director. Popp will replace Ned Zuelsdorff who has served as Executive Director for eight years and announced his retirement earlier this year. Popp will be leaving his current position as Executive Director of the SISU Nordic Ski Foundation, based in Willernie, MN. He assumes the ABSF position on June 1, 2013.

The American Birkebeiner’s first annual Fat Bike Birkie, presented by Freewheel Bike, held today, Saturday, March 9, in Cable, WI, was a great success with 300 registered riders. The main event, the 45K Fat Bike Birkie was won by Jorden Wakeley, Grayling, MI, while Danielle Musto, Grand Rapids, MI, won the 45K women's race. All races were held on the expertly groomed Birkie Trail system. The event was capped at 300 riders to ensure a great snow-biking experience on the Birkie Trail for everyone involved.

Birkie Puts Trailhead Proposal on Hold, Works with Telemark (Updated)

(Note: On April 25, the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation announced it issued a formulated a plan to build about five acres of trails and a new trailhead on 120 acres south of Cable. Telemark joined the conversation and released a proposal of its own in late March.
