As part of the promotion for their new complete line of nordic equipment, OneWay pulled into the cross-country World Cup this weekend in Kuusamo, Finland with their new service and promotional truck – complete with an are for skiers to see and touch their new products as well as a large area for their service team to work.

As you might have heard, there is not an excess of activities here in Mounio. When I’m not skiing or eating or writing blogs, I’ve taken up a small pet project helping my friend Tim with a little problem. There is something blocking his left ear. We are not sure what it is, perhaps a [...]

Lalluka A-Sample Positive for HGH, B-Sample Pending

Finnish Newspaper Ilta Sanomat reports that cross-country skier Juha Lalluka (FIN) has tested positive for human growth hormone (HGH). Lalluka’s A-sample came back positive—B-sample results are pending. Lalluka, a relative unknown on the international race scene, has made occasional appearances at elite events, including last year’s World Championships where he placed an impressive eighth in the 50k freestyle, and skied the fastest third leg of the relay, tagging to teammate Matti Heikkinen in first place....

Its hard to imagine how different our experience in Muonio, Finland has been since we were here last year. Normally cold snowy weather has been replaced by warm temperatures and steady rain. Despite the unseasonable weather, the grooming staff at Olos has done well to provide great skiing for the numerous national and club skiers [...]

A dispute between the Finnish ski federation and members of the national team was resolved on Monday, the federation reported, meaning that all 18 members of the team have rejoined the coaching staff and are training together in the final period before World Cup competitions begin. “Now it’s finally time to focus only and exclusively on elite sport,” a group of athletes who had been training independently while embroiled in the conflict said in a...

The death this week of Mika Myllylä has got me thinking about the Finnish men of that era generally, which led to this graph: I’ve graphed FIS points here to include results at all levels. I’d forgotten about Isometsä’s attempts at a comeback after his suspension, which as you can see didn’t go all that [...] Related posts:

Men’s Relay Preview: Can Norway Take Gold on Home Snow?

The 4×10 relay may very well be the marquee event of a major cross-country ski championship, providing the ultimate national bragging rights, and requiring four skiers to turn in top performances. The last time a race of this magnitude was held on Norwegian soil was in 1997 at the World Championships in Trondheim. Norway dominated that event, putting over two minutes on the field and taking some measure of revenge for the beating handed out...
