Beckman, Liebsch Take 10th Annual Ringer Roll

Skiers from all over the Midwest converged on Baker Park in Maple Plain, Minnesota Friday morning.  The occasion? The 10th annual Ringer Roll. The 10 kilometer rollerski race was established in honor of Chris Ringsven, a skier and coach who was killed in a whitewater rafting accident on December 2, 2000.  The event is the largest rollerski race in the Midwest. A smoothly-paved bike path provides a relatively flat course, but competitors had plenty to...

All proceeds from the 2010 Run For Snow will go towards the Central Cross Country Ski Association (a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation) to support opportunities for talented athletes to pursue athletic excellence in the Winter Olympic Games. This year the Run for Snow will again raise funds to adopt CXC Team Vertical Limit member, 2009 U.S. Natonal Championships Bronze medalist and winner of the 2009 American Birkebeiner 52K Skate race. Matt, father of two future skiers, will...

Big changes to the team roster and the coaching staff are this spring’s news for the Central Cross-Country Ski Association (CXC). 18 athletes and three coaches will comprise the 2011 team for one of North America’s largest and fastest-growing clubs. Vacating the post of head coach that he held since the formation of CXC in 2006, Bryan Fish has accepted a position with the US Ski Team (USST) as Continental Cup coach. Jason Cork will...

Liebsch and Owen Take Mora Vasaloppet Victory

The Mora Vasaloppet is not only a prestigious ski marathon featuring some of the nations top racers, it has a very interesting prize.  The race offers a free trip to Sweden to the overall winners to contest next year’s Swedish Vasaloppet (or $1,000). Over 350 racers lined up for this year’s Mora Vasaloppet with that trip in their sites, but after 58k of racing, it was Matt Liebsch and Kristina Owen who claimed the victories...

Racers toeing the line of the 2010 edition of the City of Lakes Loppet were greeted Sunday morning with blue skies and pleasant winter temperatures.  The snow set up firm overnight, leaving the 35k course in Minneapolis firm and fast. In the 35k freestyle Loppet, local hero Matt Liebsch (CXC Team Vertical Limit), fresh off his first points-scoring effort in the Canmore World Cup 15k skate, took the victory.  Second went to Rossignol’s Josh Smullin,...

Matt Liebsch Sharpens Stride Before Canmore

Matt Liebsch, CXC,  will soon be headed to the Canmore World Cup races, and in yesterday’s SuperTour race he proved he was further sharpening his speed.  At last weekend’s SuperTour in Minneapolis he won the skate race and took fifth in the classic race. Liebsch was just two seconds behind Bryan Cook in the 10km individual start classic race yesterday in Telemark, Wisconsin.  Liebsch gives Fasterskier a taste of the race, in which he and...

CXC Team Vertical Limit skier Matt Liebsch was able to take a few minutes between his racing and putting his kids down for bed to answer a few questions for the FasterSkier audience after winning yesterdays SuperTour in Minnesota. It sounds like the conditions were pretty sloppy out there with all of the warm and wet weather.  Can you tell us a bit about the conditions; how did the weather effect things, how the trails...

Toko Advises on Wax, Pacing and Transitions from US Nationals

The wax today was LF Moly followed by HF Blue/Red mix followed by JetStream Blue/Red mix. Mixing the two JetStreams is uncomplicated. Either rub one block on and then the other block and rotocork them in together or sprinkle one powder on and sprinkle the other powder on and iron them in together quickly followed by rotocorking them. JetStream Moly was also really good. Notice that the winners of both races were in third place...

Matt Liebsch enters the 2009-2010 season coming off of a killer season. Last year, he was third place at U.S. Nationals in Anchorage in the 15-kilometer skate, and he dropped the  field on his way to nearly a 45-second victory in the American Birkebeiner. Liebsch currently trains with CXC, and he was able to take a few minutes to talk with FasterSkier after his kids had finished their lunch. FasterSkier: Last year was a pretty good...
