The calendar is closing in fast on July, but that hasn't stopped some of the diehards from holding on to winter. We received the following report from Mandy Bowden in Montana.
The skiing on Beartooth Pass continues to hold up well. We were skiing at elevations over 8000 feet where there is still several feet of snow. Because Beartooth Pass is closed from Red Lodge due to mud slides, the drive from Bozeman is over three hours. Our trip through Yellowstone included four bear sightings and the campground we stayed in had Grizzly warnings posted.
Our ski included an hour at West Pass where the altitude is almost 11,000 feet. Then a great ski down to Top of the World which is a descent of about 1500 feet. We finished off the morning with some nice touring through rolling terrain. Not a sun cup in sight.
You can still ski anywhere you wish and I would guess the snow will hold up for another two weeks.
