Why is it when a summer time cross-training endeavor such as trail running offers such enormous physical & cardio benefits that more Nordic skiers don’t do it?
For some it is a physical dilemma with joint issues. For others the issue is not actually physical but mental.
Unlike other summer cross-over sports which can greatly benefit a Nordic skier, trail running seemingly has no glide, no free lunch, no apparent opportunity to look around and enjoy the view. Zero. Zilch.
With there being a less than obvious opportunity to sit back for a moment and enjoy “the ride”, many people are simply turned off by trail running. However, learning a little technique can go a long way in furthering your understanding of finding ways to enjoy “the runners high” without a whole lot of effort. The other key point is adopting the right outlook. This can do even more in bringing you one step closer to enjoying this wonderful & highly beneficial cross-over sport.
Choosing appropriate grades of trail, pace, and duration are critical. Too often people overdose on one if not all three of these factors and end up terribly dissatisfied or reluctant to incorporate trail running into their routine on any sort of regular basis.
Taking the time to learn effective running tips, purchasing appropriate foot wear and going out with someone who can help pace you will make all the difference.
