Another big weekend of racing awaits! From the World Cup to Olympic Biathlon Qualifiers, there will be plenty of action. This weekend’s Alberta Cup in Canmore, Alberta, hosted a distance skate and a classic sprint. The fastest Canadian racers who were not already on the World Cup competed, including the racers who had placed in the top spots at the West Yellowstone Supertours. Dasha Gaiazova and Shayla Swanson, who took first and third at the West Yellowstone sprints, finished first and second at Canmore, with Andrea Dupont placing 3rd. It's a frigid Monday morning and the American SuperTour has left the building. The USSA PR department must have forgotten to send Zeus a Christmas card last December, because this tour has seen plenty of uncomfortably cold mountain air in the last twelve months. West Yellowstone was the coldest spot in the country at -30F five nights ago. Yesterday racers warmed up with breathing masks and the races were almost moved from Bohart Ranch back to Lindley in hopes of finding a venue that was above the FIS legal floor of -4F.

James Southam (APU) won yesterday's 15K classic race at Bohart Ranch in Bozeman. Brothers Bryan and Chris Cook, filled the rest of the podium, Bryan in second and Chris in third. It was a cold day out at Bohart. Race organizers were watching the low temps and rumors were circulating late last night about the race being moved within the town of Bozeman to Lindley Park, the venue for yesterday's sprint. Luckily ambient temps stayed manageable, or the day would have been closer to home but also turned today into a gerbil-style front yard distance event.

Start lists have been posted for Sunday's distance race at Bohrat Ranch in Bozeman, Montana. Despite rumors that the race may be held at Saturday's sprint venue (Lindley Park), the race is currently scheduled to continue as planned at Bohart Ranch. The women will start at 10am, and men will start at 11am.
Garrott Kuzzy (USST/CXC Team Vertical Limit) made a statement today saying that he is easily the fastest skier on the continental circuit. He skied well ahead of the pack in his heats, saving himself the time to shake out his arms on the corners, and coast across the finish line with ease.
Women ski hard in sprint races. They hit the heats hard out of the gates, and claw and tear themselves above their opponents all the way to the finish. Men tend to play touch and go with each other a little more, but not these women. With them, it's all or nothing.
Host club Bridger Ski Foundation has posted information for tomorrow's sprint race on their website. The start list has been posted online, as well as the course map. The course is in downtown Bozeman at Lindley Park, and is relatively unrelenting with lots of turns and few big climbs at high altitude.
