If you have not yet had the opportunity to ski this race, and you have a propensity for long ski races, you should put this event on your calendar for next season. The terrain, excellent snow, technical and demanding trails, and the one-of-a-kind U.P. scenery all combine to create a memorable weekend. This year’s Noque featured some transformed,...

I was not a Bill Koch League skier, so when I was first charged with supervising Craftsbury's BKL program this spring, I was at a bit of a loss for ideas. My early-skiing experience lacked emphasis on fun that I always associate with BKL programs. Sure, I'd seen the occasional BKL practice at the Weston Ski Track, but I never paid much attention. In retrospect I wish I had. Now that I've been hanging around the small ones for a few months, I figure I've picked up a few things worth passing along.
This 2-DVD set is a cross country ski-specific presentation from experts in the field.
90 seconds into my ski with two members of the U.S. Adaptive Team, I was done feeling sorry for them. I’d just stepped out of the Kincaid Park chalet and slapped a couple of layers of extra blue on my skis. The athletes were about a minute ahead of me, heading off down the hill. As they turned the corner and crested a small rise, they didn’t seem to be going very fast. I was...

In the past month, the CXC Team Vertical Limit has been all over the west skiing on awesome trails with abundant snow. We raced in West Yellowstone, MT, Bozeman, MT and Silver Star, B.C. Although these trips are a blast, early season races are extra challenging because most athletes competing have spent only 10 days (or less) skiing on snow. Whether you get the chance to travel to snow in November or not, there will...
After taking my first ski on the local trails yesterday, I quickly remembered how spoiled Anchoraguans are with Kincaid Park. But, a quick look at langrenn.com today offers an even better reminder of how it could be.
While some lucky athletes have been training on snow for weeks, many are looking forward to strapping on their skis for the first time. For those of you who haven’t been able to seek out early-season snow, here’s some advice from the

Morrisville, VT – In less than 4 minutes, world records were broken and history was made as two US Biathletes, Jennifer Wygant and Zachary Hall, skied their way to victory in the first annual SkiErg World Sprints. “The race was tough… My main goal was to sustain a consistent pace through the entire race. However, I also had some teammates go before me, so I had some times to try and beat” explains Wygant. Wygant...
www.cxcacademy.com for more strength training ideas. It is important to remember the value of cross training in order to keep skiing enjoyable. I like to mix up my training, especially on low volume weeks, so that I’m not just “skiing easy.” Mix it up, try new activities, and remember that almost anything active can be considered cross training for Nordic skiing.

The forecast for West Yellowstone looks great. We are expecting this storm to continue into the night, another one to hit over the weekend, and cold temperatures next week to keep it all. At this point, we feel confident that the show will go...
