Kvåle Racks Up 10 k Freestyle Title at U23 Worlds; Bouffard-Nesbitt Cracks Top 20

A junior world champion in ski orienteering, Barbro Kvåle added a U23 World Championships title to her list of accomplishments on Thursday with a victory in the women's 10 k freestyle. Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt of Rocky Mountain Racers tallied 17th, Cendrine Browne (CNEPH) was 23rd, and Joanne Reid was the top American woman in 25th.

Rock-solid and fast conditions on the second day of the Lillehammer mini tour didn't work to the Canadians' favor, with Alex Harvey struggling with his left leg about 3 kilometers into the 10 k freestyle and Ivan Babikov feeling like he couldn't turn it into high gear.

Marit Bjørgen had what she considered a perfect day in Sunday's 10-kilometer freestyle individual start in Lahti, Finland. After a strong start, the Norwegian paced herself to an even faster tempo as she ticked off the kilometers, beating the likes of Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug for the World Cup victory.

Liz Stephen tossed out all ideas of pacing and went for it in Saturday's 10 k, capturing sixth in the freestyle FIS race, and Noah Hoffman listened to his "patience" cues to end up seventh in the men's 15 k free in Beitostølen, Norway. Also on the USST, Holly Brooks came closer to the top 10 in 12th.

Behind Stephen’s 10k Personal-Best, U.S. Women Satisfied With Top-30s

Liz Stephen’s performance undoubtedly headlined the day for the Americans in the women's 10 k, but further down on the results her teammates felt only “not great” to “satisfied” about their top-30s. Jessie Diggins placed 23rd, Holly Brooks finished 27th and Kikkan Randall was 30th. Still, they expect to feel fully recovered for the 4x5 k relay.
