Seeing Koos, Newell and Cook doing so well had everyone fired up and excited to get after it. Temperatures were in the low single digits but the sun was shining for the 10/15km Classical interval start CXC Super Tour at Telemark Resort. The course today was shortened due to thin...

OTEPAEAE, Estonia (Jan. 28) – Two-time Olympian Torin Koos (Leavenworth, WA) finished third and Andy Newell (Shaftsbury, WA) fourth Saturday – the best U.S. men's World Cup finish since 1983 – in a 1.2K classic technique sprint won by Norway's Jens Arne Svartedal. Flying above the Baltic Ocean to Russia, thoughts of the 1980 Moscow Olympics come to mind. From history’s prism, the American led boycott of 1980 Olympics hardly registers. Our athletes were political weapons in 1980; Russia returned the favor four years later at the LA Games. And Afghanistan? It would be nine more years before the tanks would retreat. Better for us to battle with bikes and javelins, or skis. “The ancient Greeks believed the...

Ola Vigen Hattestad stretched his foot forward when Odd- Bjorn Hjelmeset turned to look for the competitors. That was enough with the smallest possible margin. Deep double-poling is out…? Not the case when you look at the photo from the men’s sprint finale at the Norwegian championship! Marit Bjorgen was outsprinted in the women’s finale. Hattestad to the far right. Also undeterred by the weather are the participants: Marcialonga has been sold out of starting positions already weeks ago, and a record 5,177 competitors, 3,005 of them from outside of...
