Adults who want to combine their dogsled riding with a little weekend wine-tasting have been heading up to “Dog Sledding in the Vines” at Bowers Harbor Vineyards, just north of Traverse City. On selected winter Saturdays, a sled dog team from Second Chance Mushers have been giving rides through the nearby vineyards. As it happens, these huskies and malamutes aren’t ordinary sled dogs, either. They’ve been rescued from shelters and dog pounds by their owner,...

Press release) When Toko HF Black in the final layer and why? When snow is cold but also dirty and machined, a black wax is generally not as necessary as HF Blue will make the base sufficiently hard and slippery to minimize the dry friction that occurs in these conditions.  When snow is clean and wet, suction is the main factor slowing skis down which is easily minimized by a soft wax such as HF...

The Jackson Ski Touring Center staff can groom up to nearly 100 km of sprawling trails through the White Mountains. Generally, it’s an accomplishment for most to ski them all in the course of season, a month or maybe a week. But on Saturday, Feb. 14, Jackson XC wants to know how much you can ski in a day. The Jackson Groomed Trail Challenge is open to any skier looking to see just how many...

But when winter arrives around, the focus shifts inland – to the heavily wooded highlands that lie to the south. Minutes from the bustle of downtown Traverse City and the glitter of its beachfront resorts, the highlands – which include wide swathes of the Pere Marquette State Forest — evoke an older time of hunting and fishing lodges, wilderness...

Falun, cross-country skiing and the world championships is a classic combination that has resulted in great victories for Sweden. Now it’s time again. Supported by The Kurbits Race Suit − a new super garment developed exclusively for the upcoming world championships in Falun − Kalla, Olsson and the other Swedish skiers aim to repeat Torgny Mogren’s feat from 1993.

Madshus, the world’s leading performance Nordic ski company, has expanded its IntelliGrip® skin program to include an integrated base solution for a more hands-off classic skiing experience. Available on the Terrasonic Classic ski, the IntelliGrip® Base brings the performance of the IntelliGrip® skin into the construction of one of the most popular Race Performance skis in the Madshus line.

Generally the difference between cold and universal skis are flex (more contact on cold skis), structure, and often times base material. These are what differentiate. In terms of preparing a cold ski to be "cold" in general, a common mistake is to only use cold waxes. We have noticed that if you only wax your cold skis with hard waxes, the skis accept less and less wax. For this reason, it is good to put some softer waxes now and then in the cold skis too.
