The "Freeman Fridays" is an eight event Nordic ski race series that begins January 9th. The first event will be 3k and increase one kilometer each week. This series will support skiers of all levels interested in Nordic racing, come at 3:30 with a guided warm up, course inspection and racing strategies. Registration is $5 per race or $35 for the entire series.

Western State Colorado University will offer a Master of Science in Exercise & Sports Science with a focus in High Altitude Exercise Physiology beginning Fall 2015. The new residential graduate program is Western’s latest addition to a rapidly growing array of graduate programs at the university and is Western’s first master of science offering.

Introduced by National Ski Areas Association, January is known as Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, a national effort to introduce newcomers to snowsports. Tahoe Donner Downhill and Cross Country Ski Areas are proud to participate in this program by offering beginner packages to those new to the sport. Between Jan. 5-9 and Jan. 12-16 those who have never tried skiing or snowboarding can take advantage of deeply discounted learn to ski and snowboard deals.

On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports Program will host the first annual “Changes in Altitude” Ski-A-Thon and Après Ski Beach Party & Auction at beautiful Waterville Valley Resort. This inaugural event is the nonprofit organization’s major fundraiser event of 2015. Funds raised will support the Adaptive Program’s efforts to provide athletic activities for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities.

Returning this year to Tahoe Donner is Winter Trails Day, a national event co-hosted by Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area and REI.

All three of Tahoe Donner’s winter venues are now open for the 2014-2015 season.

The 29th Annual Alley Loop presented by Western State Colorado University will take place on Saturday, February 7th. Part of the American Ski Marathon Series and an American Birkebeiner qualifying race, the event is also Crested Butte’s largest costume party.
