The New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF) got their racing season started in Lake Placid, NY this past Saturday. In the 5km freestyle race Charlie Bencze (Tupper Lake) and Heather Mooney (Vermont Academy) won the J2 class. Treated to a potpourri of weather – sunny skies, fast moving clouds, sporadic wind and periodic snow – 127 skiers raced laps around the Geepers Loop at Great Glen Trails. The first domestic cross-country ski race of the season took place this past weekend at Birch Hill in Fairbanks, Alaska. Both races were National Ranking List (NRL) races…and the snow was fantastic according to multiple sources. The 2007 Wooden Ski Classic was held at Russian Jack Park again this year, with the usual fine snow and lots of crazy people dressed in old style wool and woodies duking it out with the clock turned back 30+ years. Australia’s Pub to Pub race is a pretty unique event. Take a 5km cross-country ski race, add in five beer stations, and 400 other people in fancy dress. The 2007 FIS Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) for cross country skiing concluded on Saturday August 25 with the Kangaroo Hoppet at Falls Creek.
