Germany’s Evi Sachenbacher struggled getting motivated after last season, and looked for more personal coaching than the German National Team was able to give her – her answer was the coach of the Swedish Biathlon Team. Sachenbacher ended up eleventh overall in last season’s World Cup, with a couple of top-3 finishes in individual competitions. At the end of the season her motivation came to a low-point, and she chose to switch coach. Her new...

So far eveyone has missed the boat on claiming the vaunted prize. I would say that history has easily tamed sports to be pretty much a liesure activity regardless of what you claim your modern day avocation to be. Consider these from our past: The Gladiator, death was almost certain, even if you happened to win one round. The American Indians of the upper midwest would play Lacrosse with hundreds of combatants. If you didn't...

Picking a college as a young nordic skier can be a tough choice. Plenty of factors must be considered; one of the first decisions to be made is location. Where do I want to spend four years of my life skiing and studying? While there may be no need to intensify the east vs. west dispute (my respects to Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac), but to choose a college or university wisely, one must know the...

15 June 2004 I must’ve followed my coffee cup around the house ten times a couple weeks ago before I finally admitted defeat. There was no way I was going out in the pouring, 40-degree rain to get in my long run for the week. Even though I’m registered to run in Grandma’s Marathon here in Duluth, MN coming up on the 19th, I couldn’t summon up the studliness to venture outside. Dejected, I tromped...

National team wax technician, Geir Tufto was heavily involved in the Norwegian wax controversy last winter. He made it clear that he would not continue if substantial (personnel) changes didn’t occur, these changes did not materialize. – It wasn’t an option for me to continue as long as they wanted to operate as they did, said Tufto to Langrenn.com. Tufto has been considered one of the absolute best Norwegian waxers, and he soon got job...

Cross-country skiing in June at 85 degrees is an exotic and challenging event not only for the athletes but for event organizers as well. Last March huge piles of snow were covered with a giant tarp and saved for the Summer Ski Fest at Tyrol Basin Ski Area, Mount Horeb, WI just 25 mile west of Madison. Originally the length of the race course was planned to be around 550 to 600 meters with short...

The Norwegian men’s national team just finished the second training camp of the season. The first camp was dryland training while this camp was on-snow at Sognefjellet. The weather varied from nice, warm and beautiful to snowing. The camp program included two daily workouts consisting of easy distance training, one one-snow skate threshold session, one classic 6 x 5 minutes rollerski interval workout and one on-snow 10 kilometer skate time-trial in fast, hard packed conditions....
