Information about skiing in new places.

Nowhere else in Europe, or the world, for that matter, can claim the popularity that Ramsau am Dachstein has as a training destination. A glacier to ski on at 8,000 feet, a 6-km rollerski loop that will scare you out of your bindings, hundreds of kilometers of single track running paths, a gym with all the fixings, and rallying in a 1.7 L with a stick shift on the twisty roads. Athletes from all over...

Ramsau, Austria, nestled high in the Alps, is a world-renowned cross-country skiing town. It has over 150km of ski trails in the winter which are great for running and walking in the summer. The skiing facilities there play host to World Cup events for Cross country, ski jumping and Nordic combined. The ski jumping stadium lies at the center of town and has two year-round ski jumps. Just outside town and very near to where...

I have to admit, this year was my sixth summer training in Vuokatti. I have already witnessed the tunnel, the food, the running and rollerskiing trails many times before as I set foot on Finnish soil two weeks ago. Perhaps what brings me back year after year however is the knowledge that each trip will be a distinctly different experience paired with a clearly predictable training schedule. Every summer, the tunnel is refrigerated to a...

It is now mid-July in West Yellowstone and, like much of the country, it’s hot, hot, hot! In fact, it’s so hot that I had a conversation the other night about how nice it will be when we can start wearing our down jackets again. You see, we aren’t used to the heat up here and we live for the winter time! And, incredibly, it’s already time to start thinking about kicking off the winter...

Austin Ross is currently participating in a Vermont Academy Camp in Finland. Austin is a student at Colby College, and originally from Steamboat Springs, CO. You can look forward to one other story towards the end of the camp. Leaving the frenzied atmosphere of a patriotism-hungry tourist town in Colorado on the fifth of July for the considerably less festive confines of a small town in central Finland was a drastic change. When coupled with...

The Association has taken advantage of the opportunity to celebrate this milestone on several occasions in the past 12 months: Last summer, the Ski Association installed a ski lift on one of the glaciers providing the scene for a number events, such as training camps for children and recreational skiers.

We (Little Ski Hill) have a permit to use this area with the US-Forest Service, and need everyone's help in keeping this a non-motorized recreation area use for the future. There are plans for a better parking area and possible small...
