Cycling and the Tour de France have invaded Statistical Skier this week.  If you’ve been tuning in here for the skiing content and find this trend distressing, you can console yourself with the fact that the Tour will end soon.  On the other hand, I’ve enjoyed the cycling stage race graphics and so I have [...] Related posts:

Earlier this week I introduced an idea I had for calculating a points-like measure for sprint racing that was applicable beyond the qualification round.  You can go back and review the methodology here. In this post I’d like to revisit this idea and look at how these new points look when ranking athletes.  First, I [...] Related posts:

Just recently the guys at FasterSkier and the Nordic Commentary Project got together for a podcast, where they discussed a range of topics in international ski racing.  One topic that they touched upon was the fact that cross country skiing has an ever increasing number of race formats. I listened with interest to that section, [...] Related posts:

div style="text-align: left;"Last weekend we had a classic team sprint race downtown Anchorage. We put together two pretty competitive APU woman's teams that battled head to head between the rounds. Becca and I were teamed up against team pink- Katie Ronsee and Greta Anderson. In the semi-finals Katie and Greta finished a strong 16 seconds ahead of us, so Becca and I were forced to readjust our strategy. We decided to just go like hell from the gun for the two laps each of the Final round and not worry about conserving energy. Fortunately our plan worked out, this time taking the win and crossing the finish line 44 seconds ahead of team pink. br //divdivbr //divdivThe boys race was fun to watch as well. National Champ, Tyler Kornfield, and David Norris went up against the Hanneman brothers who held their ground quite nicely. With a tight race up until the last lap where Reese Hanneman put down some quick pulling- the Hannemans pulled through ahead. /divdivbr //divdivIt was fun to see the people putting it on get so into it. They even had an announcer for the finishing area.! Fun stuff. One of the mothers at the race caught some shots below./divdivbr //divdivOne more week of training in town and then we head up to the glacier for our last on snow training camp./divdivbr //divdivbr //diva onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivk3SQXfI/AAAAAAAAAZo/q4DDPb-pl00/s1600/rollerski+2.jpg"img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivk3SQXfI/AAAAAAAAAZo/q4DDPb-pl00/s320/rollerski+2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496836393056361970" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px; " //adiv style="text-align: center;"Racing around the 1.3km loopbr //divdivbr //divdiva onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivdzA5enI/AAAAAAAAAZg/h7z0CQO_A8s/s1600/rollerski+1.jpg"img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivdzA5enI/AAAAAAAAAZg/h7z0CQO_A8s/s320/rollerski+1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496836271650732658" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px; " //a/divdivbr //diva onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivwRlVJFI/AAAAAAAAAZw/Cy3ejK-Z570/s1600/rollerski+3.jpg"img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_l4L_01UOs1s/TEivwRlVJFI/AAAAAAAAAZw/Cy3ejK-Z570/s320/rollerski+3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496836589094249554" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px; " //adiv style="text-align: center;"Tag off exchanges between partnersbr //divdivbr //divdivbr //divdiv class="blogger-post-footer"img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2018521813175454198-4171675796107696114?l=sadiebjornsen.blogspot.com' alt='' //div

Inspired by the slightly different charts found here, a chart of a different flavor today.  At that link, Martin has wisely adjusted plots of time back for each stage by the median.  I’ve taken that idea and plotted the time back in the GC category for each stage, but I’ve split it up by team [...] Related posts:

While most of the Northern Hemisphere , notably central Europe has been experiencing an unusually long heat wave which has even led to earlier than planned closures of some glacier ski resorts in the very North, the Southern Hemisphere has seen a promisingly cold start to the winter. Continuing cold with snow flurries have helped create an excellent basis for the season. For example Mt Hotham in Australia reports that so far this winter it...
