Source: This report on the US Ski Team was provided by Team Today: Wendy Wagner Rollerski time trials are a workout and race practice. Comparing times to others is completely useless and counter productive. Comparing times to past years, or even past months is likewise hard to draw conclusions from. Even skis of the same brand with the same series of wheels can have different speeds and skis of different brands are guaranteed to have...

Norwegian Sprint Queen Marit Bjorgen bared her back muscles for the Dagbladet newspaper in a recent article. Go to  Sprint is however most hot in cross country skiing at the moment. That’s where you have the biggest profiles, most show, most people and eventually most money. Why not simply be happy with a sprint trademark and squeeze this to maximum? – Because I want to prove what I think I’m capable of, that I can...

A Classic sprint race took place between Swedens best skiers.  The Oktobersprinten this past weekend in Mora, Sweden was won by World Cup sprinter Bjoern Lind from Hudiksvall.  He solidly beat the 2004 World Cup Sprint Champion, Tobias Fredricksson of Ostersund.  Both men, racing on the new Fischer Centrix Classic boots, and Fischer skis, dominated the competition through the qualifiers and heats to come out on top.  Snow was sloppy, and dirty, but these guys...

The World Cup gets underway this coming weekend with sprints in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Scandinavian teams for the sprint World Cup opener were named last week. The United States will not send a team to the sprint opener, but with join the World Cup in November. Norwegian Men: HÃ¥vard Bjerkeli, Tor Arne Hetland, Trond Iversen, John Kristian Dahl, Johan Kjœlstad, Krister Trondsen, Arve SkÃ¥ren, Boerre Naess Norwegian Ladies: Marit Bjoergen, Hilde G. Pedersen, Vibeke Skofterud,...

Many skiers on the Norwegian women’s national cross country team have set personal MaxV02 records lately according to the newspaper VG. It’s women’s National team coach Svein Tore Samdal that has revealed this in an interview during the team’s on-snow altitude camp in Val Senales, Italy – Almost everyone has performed “all-time high” on the oxygen uptake tests. It’s nice to see that the skiers are in shape. This is also a natural progression. We...

The training benefits of trapping rats have yet to be discovered by the Nordic ski world. However, I believe that this new found means of building muscle, bee venom tolerance, and endurance, while having fun and getting paid will soon become an integral part of every serious ski racer’s training plan. Woodrats are about the size of white lab rats, but much cuter, with silky gray fur and large black eyes, and constitute the primary...

Fasterskier.com is entering its fourth winter of providing the latest ski training and racing news. We have strived to post articles of interest to young and old, elite and recreational skiers. We have posted news, updates, profiles, results, training and racing summer and winter. More than 50-60 monthly articles have become the norm even in the summer. The total number of articles that can be found in our archives after two seasons have reached several...

The last month has been a tough one. Instead of cranking up the intensity to get ready for the race season, which is only 7 weeks away, I have been trying to nurse a knee back into shape. I have one of those injuries that require only one thing, and being an athlete with a goal, a plan, a lot invested, and just too much energy, that one thing is really difficult to find: PATIENCE....

Plan for Chicago Marathon 2004: Ride with the 3:00 pacing group for about 25 km, then try to get 5 minutes out of the last 10 miles. With a good close, and ideal conditions, a 2:55 would be within reach. As you might expect, things played out differently from the plan. In my blind trust of the pacers, I expended way too much early energy trying to ride them. Early miles of 6:36 to 6:45...

The Austrian Nordic Combined National Team spent two week Cross-Country training on Iceland´s Mýrdalsjökull glacier in September. The team had several very good training days in perfect snow conditions as can be seen on pictures from their training at “Iceland was exactly the right decision. The training and the environment were a continuos challenge for each and every one”, said head coach Günther Chromecek.

Tuesday Kris Freeman set a new personal record and official course record for the Soldier Hollow 10km time trial. His time of 37:09 beat the old course record he shared with Scott Loomis by 2 seconds. This is actually a big improvement because we have done very little pure running in the past two months...

Organizers of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race are deep into planning the 32nd annual event scheduled Saturday, February 26, 2005. In addition to the 51 kilometer Subaru American Birkebeiner and 23 kilometer Johnson Bank Kortelopet ski races, a new event, the 12K Prince Haakon 12 kilometer race sponsored by Johnson Bank, has been added to the three-day event. The American Birkebeiner is North America's largest and most prestigious cross-country ski marathon. Spanning 51 kilometers...

The Norwegian men’s cross country national team started their on-snow camp in Val Senales, Italy with their smallest team ever when only three skiers showed up due to sickness, according to newspaper VG. Only Frode Estil, Tore Rud Hofstad and Jens Arne Svartedal started skiing at 3000 meters altitude last Saturday. – Another three skiers should hopefully arrive on Tuesday, says national team coach Sorgard. Anders Aukland, Kristen Skjeldal and Odd Bjorn Hjelmeset are all...
