Get Your Nordic On! Clinic Recap Rochester, MN June 13, 2010 The 2010 rollerski season is underway!  The Rochester Nordic Club (RASC) hosted a great early summer rollerski clinic led by 2010 Olympian and CXC Elite skier Garrott Kuzzy on Sunday, June 13. The Rochester Nordic Club made up of silent sport enthusiasts in the Rochester area.  In [...]

The Rochester Nordic Ski Team, a part of the Rochester Active Sports Club (RASC), will be hosting a ski clinic with US Olympic skier and CXC Team Vertical Limit member Garrott Kuzzy on Sunday June 13th at Essex Park in Rochester.  There will be a 2 hour clinic for masters and coaches starting at 1:00pm [...]

Congrats to the University of Virgina Women’s Rowing team and my sister Martha–NCAA DI Champions! UVA getting it done. I had the opportunity to meet the team during a visit to Virginia this spring.  Rowers work harder than any other athletes I know and to be the best team in the NCAA is pretty cool.  Nice work, [...]

It was 95 degrees, humid, and windy in Hayward yesterday.  Only a small, die-hard group of five showed up for the weekly Tuesday night ride, likely because of ominous skies and distant thunder.  Much needed showers in the area got rid of most of the head and humidity, so we ended up with an ideal evening to [...]

Mountain bike racing for the second week in a row!  Can’t remember the last time I did back-to-back weekends of bike racing. . .probably not since I rode my bike more than once a week. Cable, Wisconsin hosted the Cable Classic–23 miles of bike racing on the local CAMBA trails.  After a brutal awakening to the [...]

That’s right.  After a three week vacation that took me on a tour of places most cross country skiers don’t get to check out during the race season, including Washington DC, Charlottesville, Virginia, and New Orleans, Louisiana, (which I will write more about later), it was time to start training again.  This time we were [...]

Last Wednesday, the 2010 U.S. Winter Olympic team had the opportunity to meet President Barack Obama at the White House.  Although the trip was short and sweet, it was the one of the highlights of my Olympic experience. All 250+ Winter Olympians and Paralympians were invited to the visit which has been a tradition for decades. [...]

Whether good or bad, habits can be easy to pick up (usually the bad ones) and easy to drop (usually the good ones).  I’ve definitely gotten out of the habit of regular website updates.  Instead, I’ve been taking advantage of everything spring has to offer up here in Hayward, reviewing seasons past, and preparing for [...]

The ski season may be over, but there are plenty of other sports going strong.  Cruising around the Twin Cities it is pretty obvious. Of course, the Twins are opening their new stadium this weekend in a pre-season game against the Cardinals. The new stadium is pretty sweet. . .and about time we had an outdoor baseball [...]

I haven’t had enough of the ski season yet.  Haven’t been able to get any posts up for the past couple days, ’cause I’ve been on the road. . .to Australia.  The ski season starts here soon and I want to be sure to get first tracks!

Today was day one of the SuperTour Finals in northern Aroostook County, Maine.  The race was held in the Town of Matawaska, more affectionately known as Madagascar, for it’s similar name and remote distance from anywhere.  Today’s 10km classic was the first of three consecutive days of racing.  This post will be brief as I’ve [...]

I’ve never seen a sign like this before. . . No worm digging?  That’s like telling a fish they can’t swim or a bird they can’t fly.  Digging, that’s just what worms do.  I didn’t know they could read either, but they must be pretty bright worms as they know both English and French.

Whew.  Wrapped up the 50km US Championship in Fort Kent, Maine yesterday.  Despite the 10″ of new snowfall we received the day before the race, the trail set up well for firm, fast conditions.  I had a solid 35km in me and cruised with the lead pack for the majority of the race.  CXC rookie, [...]

The SuperTour Finals fits into a relatively new genre of competition – that of “mini-tour.”  The term derives from the Tour De Ski, the multi-stage World Cup event featuring eight races in ten days.  And while World Cup points are awarded for each individual race (half points actually), the big prize is the overall title. The success of the Tour on the global stage has led to the concept of the mini-tour, a similar format...

We’ve been in Fort Kent since arriving on Saturday.  Finally got hooked up to the internet and are getting settled back into college, I mean, ski life.  The crew is gearing up for the 50km skate tomorrow morning.  It has been beautiful since we arrived with hard-packed trails and fast conditions.  The biathlon National Championships [...]

There’s nothing like a good road trip to kick off spring. No tickets to book, nor schedule to keep. Just pull off the road when you’re ready to sleep. The sun shines bright and the pavement is dry, there’s so much to see when you opt not to fly. Go find some good friends to help split the drive, and keep [...]

Not since my freshman year at CXC have I ski raced in the East.  Yeah, it’s been that long.  I can’t wait to get back.  We’re leaving tomorrow morning for the long drive from Wisconsin to Maine–27 hours according to mapquest.  We’ll be competing in the 50km National Championship and the SuperTour Finals.  Here are [...]
